WIHS 2020 school launch delayed

WIHS will open in 2021 due to COVID-19 challenges

The impact of the COVID-19 crisis has been felt across the state and Whatcom Intergenerational High School (WIHS), like schools around the country, has also been affected.  As a result of construction and facilities challenges due to COVID-19 work stoppages, we will be unable to open school doors in the fall.  On Wednesday, May 13, our Board of Directors voted to take an additional planning year, delaying our opening until September 2021.

We understand this change adds additional uncertainties to the lives of our founding students and families during an already challenging time. While we will be unable to open for school in September, we will continue to support students as we prepare to launch in September 2021. We will be hosting a series of free Phenomenon-Based Learning experiences beginning this August and continuing throughout the 2020-21 school year.

While it is disappointing to encounter this setback so close to the finish line, we are sure that we will be repositioned for a strong school launch in September 2021. In the coming weeks we will share details about next steps and what our additional planning year will look like.
