OUR ACADEMIC MODEL
The goal of Phenomenon-Based Learning is to understand and study real world phenomena from a variety of perspectives and across multiple disciplines.
Learning happens in an authentic environment which might be out in the community, at a local river or during a council meeting. Student interests drive student inquiries and research regarding the phenomena they will study. Within this experiential learning environment, students develop the competencies to think about and solve complex issues and problems.
At the end of every semester students join the community to share what they have learned. PhenoBL aligns well with our commitment to integrate Indigenous Ways of knowing with Western Knowledge; one approach referred to as Two-Eyed Seeing is culturally responsive to diverse students' needs fostering the development of confidence, an integrated cultural identity and reciprocal relationships and understanding.
